During the Warring States period in Japan, InuYasha, a half-yokai, searches for the Shikon Jewel to become a full-fledged demon. Kikyo, a mage and also his lover, seals him in an ancient tree and then burns her body with the jewel. 550 years later, Higurashi Kagome, a Tokyo student, is attacked by a centipede yokai that comes out of a dry well and drags her back to Japan 500 years ago. She releases InuYasha’s seal so he can destroy the demon. The Shikon Jewel reappears from her body. Kagome realizes that she is Kikyo’s reincarnation, so she has the same power as Kikyo and inherits her mission. During the fight, she accidentally breaks the jewel into pieces, and their journey begins to find all the jewel pieces in the Sengoku period.
