Water Margin is inspired by a great Chinese novel by Shi Nai’an about the formation and achievements of a group of 108 outlaws against the imperial court around the thirteenth century. The story realistically reflects the entire process of the Chinese peasant uprising in feudal times, from relatively independent stories linked together as a complete legend. Like the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin has multiple versions available in different art, story-telling, and presentation styles.
